Frequently Asked Questions

What is GoldStar Hub?

GoldStar Hub is a free online directory that connects ALL surviving families who have lost a loved one in military service with vetted resources — including camps and retreats, scholarships for high school, college, and trade or vocational programs, mental health support, peer communities, and other services dedicated to those who have lost a loved one in military service. Additional resources include: children’s programs (mentorship, tutoring, sports); financial assistance and emergency grants; career and employment support for surviving spouses, and memorial events and recognition programs.

Who is GoldStar Hub for?

The resources are for ALL surviving families of U.S. service members who died — including spouses, children, parents, siblings, fiancés, and extended family. Some of the organizations provide support regardless of how or where the loss occurred (combat, training, illness, suicide, or other causes during service), and some have specific criteria.

Is GoldStar Hub free to use?

Yes. Browsing GoldStar Hub is completely free. All of the organizations we link to also offer their programs at no cost, though some may have application requirements or eligibility guidelines.

Who qualifies as a Gold Star family member?

The term “Gold Star family” traditionally refers to the immediate family of a service member who died during service on active duty. Today, many organizations use the term more broadly to include families who lost a loved one during any form of military service or service-related death. Each organization listed on GoldStar Hub sets its own eligibility criteria, which are provided on its website.
